Performance. Presence. Resilience.
Train like an athlete. Think like a stoic.
1:1 online coaching built around your schedule and your sport, with a performance coach checking in every week to make sure you're getting closer to achieving your goal.
“I wanted to focus on my acceleration work and felt like Tom would be the best person to help me do that.”
“Felt it made a big difference to my spring.”
“I loved the variations in primers that helped me work on my ankle, foot and calf stability.”
Dan worked with me 1:1 online, doing this before his heavy training sessions. The primers and acceleration work I built for him are what Quick Off The Mark is made of.
Nobody who comes to me has a discipline problem. They have a structure problem. Recognise any of this?
You train consistently enough. But it's different lifts and different drills every week, nothing repeated long enough to produce an adaptation. Usually a generic plan pulled off ChatGPT or Instagram.
Three good weeks, then a fixture pile-up or a heavy stretch at work. By the time you pick it back up you're starting from the bottom again, so you never get past the beginning.
Strength, speed and conditioning all crammed into the same week, none of it sequenced so that one quality builds on the last. Hard training that cancels itself out.
No numbers at the start, so no way of telling whether the last block worked. You're left guessing, and guessing is why the next block looks like the last one.
Run it alongside your strength work, not instead of it.
Buy Now“He's faster and more engaged, also with more understanding of the mechanics of what he is doing. Tom has been brilliant at getting kids to buy into the program.”
“The engagement from Tom is great, and the support has been truly helpful. I'm now the fittest and strongest I've been and look forward to continuing to progress.”
Seven weeks later: no back pain, stronger, present in every session. He's not a professional athlete. But he trained like one.
Leaner, and forty percent stronger underneath it. The photo is the part people notice; the lifts are the part that made it happen.
Never trained in a gym before we started. Seven weeks later he hasn't missed a single session, and the bar has gone up almost every week.
When I was younger I thought more was better. More sprints, more reps, desperate to get quicker. I wanted a pro contract badly, and at 18 I didn't get one. I went to university and played 3rd team, still training hard, still with no real idea of the best way to do it.
Then I tore my hamstring doing extra sprints after a team session.
I went to a rehab specialist, and that's where it changed. I started training smarter, and running properly. Had my best season yet and got a Premiership contract with London Irish. Then the club went into administration. The dream, taken away by something completely out of my control.
Since then I've competed in the Championship with Ampthill, Richmond and Coventry, and trained in three Premiership environments: Exeter Chiefs, London Irish and Leicester Tigers.
I'm not in the Prem now, but I'm still obsessed with performance. A more explosive first step was all I ever wanted. As a coach my understanding of how to build one has gone up massively.
This is what I'd give my younger self. Done consistently, not drilled into the ground.
At STOICATHLETE we make rugby players and everyday athletes physically dominant, with a focus on speed, strength and smart training. Modern training, even at professional level, is too general. A one size fits all approach doesn't work.
We give you the tools to prioritise your training in the right order, so you become powerful, strong and resilient. The qualities the best players all share.
You might be in the 3rd team. Out of shape, not strong enough, not fast enough yet. That isn't a reason to be discouraged. It's the most exciting position to be in, because it means there is far more in you than you've used so far. Progress made deliberately overtakes people who coast.
When I arrived at London Irish I was near the bottom of the power jump scores. I remember thinking, alright, let's see what sort of player I can be when I'm at the top of that board.
Performance isn't only physical. Life will throw setbacks at you. Injuries, rejection, poor performances. Those moments don't define you, and how you respond to them decides more than any single training block will. That's the stoic part, and it's why the brand carries the name.
I'd rather coach fewer athletes properly than fill the roster. Results come from the work getting done, so I take on people who'll do it and I'm honest early if I don't think that's you.
If you want a plan you can dip in and out of, there are cheaper places to get one, including my own courses further up this page. If you want somebody in your corner every week for a season, that's this.
Yes, when it's genuinely coached rather than sent. Your programme lives in TrueCoach, so you log every session in the app and send video of the lifts and runs that matter. I review it weekly and adjust. The accountability is usually higher online than it is with a coach you see once a fortnight in a gym.
Most of the athletes I coach aren't. Club players, academy players, school-age athletes and people who just want to be quicker and more durable in whatever they play. The method is the same; the programme is written for where you actually are.
A download can't see you. Nobody adjusts it when you plateau, nobody catches the technique fault that's costing you the adaptation, and nobody changes the week when you get three fixtures in ten days.
A gym with a barbell and somewhere to run — a pitch, a field or a track. I'll write around what you've genuinely got access to, but for serious speed and strength work those two are the floor.
Rugby is home ground — I play it, I coach it full time, and contact sport is where most of my athletes come from. Beyond that the principles travel: I've worked with athletes across field sports, and with people training for general athleticism rather than a fixture list.
Yes. Groups of four and up, and school and club contracts, are arranged separately. Tell me the squad size, the age group and what you need to move, and I'll come back with a plan and a price.
1:1 online is £45 per week with unlimited sessions. In person is £55 an hour for one athlete, or £40 per person for two or more athletes. Quick Off The Mark, the four-week speed programme, is £60 one-off.
Hit any of the buttons on this page and fill in the short form. It takes a couple of minutes and tells me about your sport, your training and what you're trying to fix. I'll come back within 48 hours with an honest answer on whether I'm the right coach for it.
